Holiday Travelers’ Survival Guide 2008
Budget Travel has their Holiday Travelers’ Survival Guide 2008 online and it contains a list of USA-specific tips for travelling this holiday season.
Here are their tips:
- Leave your gifts unwrapped.
- Put wine or perfume in checked luggage.
- Know the battery rules.
- Avoid baggage fees.
- Check for delays online.
- Reserve airport parking in advance.
- Decide which airport security line is best for you.
- Find estimated waiting times for security screening online (tsa.org)
- Act fast, if your flight is cancelled.
- Join loyalty programs in advance.
- Find affordable gas online (see Gasbuddy).
- Use Amtrak’s redcaps to find a seat faster.
For a better explanation of them, see the full Survival Guide, but they are pretty commonsense for anyone who travels regularly. On the other hand, there are a couple of other suggestions which may come in handy.
My tips:
- If possible, carry an extra bag with you when you travel. This will allow for any expansion in the weight of your luggage to be spread out instead of going overweight in a bag. In addition, if you are planning on shopping while traveling, try to pack into one fewer bag than your total allowance. For instance, if you are allowed 2 carry-ons and 2 checked pieces,
- Don’t use airport based money exchanges. They are always the most expensive. This includes arranging to pickup bills at them.
Hope that everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!
