According to the One Show last night, hats are back in fashion! They did a little section on the hat industry and the fact that sales have been up by 30% over the last few years. According to the BBC Magazine, it is younger men (between 14 & 25) that are keeping hat-wearing alive. Then again, it seems that more and more celebrities are appearing in public wearing hats of various shapes and sizes … from movie stars to royalty, hats are both popular and fashionable again!
As I have said before, I enjoy wearing hats and grab one on the way out of the house everytime I leave. Just this last weekend, I purchased my newest hat – a straw trilby/fedora from M&S – for summer. Something a little nicer than a ball cap but cooler (temperature-wise, that is) than my flat caps, especially the wool one (in Rob Roy tartan). Unfortunately, the trend over the last 100 years towards casual wear has meant that I have fewer opportunities to wear my suit and fedora … then again, it does give me a chance to wear a wider variety of hats!
But, I digress … on Monday, the Celebrity Hat Wearers of the Year were announced, with the list being topped by Hugh Jackman and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy (wife of the French President).
Celebrity Hat Wearers of the Year 2009 (Women & Men)
Carla Bruni & Hugh Jackman
HM the Queen & Sir Sean Connery
The Countess of Wessex & Daniel Day Lewis
Victoria Beckham & Johnny Depp
Madonna & Peter Andre
Just for fun, the One Show also has a gallery of dogs in hats.
